Garzon Goal Lifts CSUDH Over Pioneers

HAYWARD -- A score by senior midfielder Kelly Garzon lifted the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team over Cal State East Bay 1-0 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup, Friday night at Pioneer Stadium.
 
The Toros win their first conference game of the year and improve to 1-4 in CCAA play and 2-7 overall. The Pioneers drop to 1-5 in league play and 3-8 overall.
 
In the 65th minute, Abigail Ponce found Garzon at the top of the box. She then rifled a shot, finding the space between the CSUEB goalkeeper and the crossbar.
 
Toro goalie Elisa Martin recorded her first shutout of the season. In a stellar effort, she faced 15 shots and compiled eight saves.
 
CSUDH will have a day off before taking on another conference opponent on the road. On Sunday, October 8, the Toros will face Cal State Monterey Bay at 11:30 a.m
