Toros Come Up Short From Silencing No. 23 Coyotes in Five Sets

CARSON –Tati Yandall had 14 kills and 20 digs, Hailey Smith recorded 11 each of the same categories as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team came up short from upsetting defending CCAA champions and No. 23 Cal State Bernardino in five sets (25-23, 17-25, 24-26, 25-23, 12-15) at the Torodome Friday night.
 
Morelia Castro also led the effort on the attack with 14 kills and Claire Autry finished one behind her. Rylee Kiger was credited for 39 assists while Cathryn Lopez made 21 digs. Altogether, the Toros hit .202 throughout the evening while edging CSUSB in the digs column 73-71.

The Coyotes (10-6, 6-2 CCAA) hit .210 on the night with reigning CCAA Player of the Week Lauren Nicholson leading the way with 15 kills. She also made 11 digs.
 
With the exception of the second game, neither team clinched a set win by more than three points.

The two teams will meet again in San Bernardino in November but in the meantime the Toros will welcome Cal Poly Pomona to Carson Saturday at 7 p.m.
