CARSON – Combined with other results around the league, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team claimed the 2017 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular season title after a 3-0 win over Stanislaus State in a conference matchup, Saturday at Toro Stadium. The Toros had other conference matches go their way with Cal State LA defeating Chico State, 1-0 in overtime, and a 0-0 double overtime draw between UC San Diego and Cal State Monterey Bay.
CSUDH concludes its regular season 12-4-2 overall and 9-2-1 in conference play. The Warriors drop to 6-6-5 overall and 3-4-4 in the CCAA.
Before the game, seven CSUDH seniors were honored as

Abel Hinojosa played in their final regular seaon home contest.
The Toros got their opening goal after a corner kick from
Adam Vargas was headed up in the air by
Abel Hinojosa. The ball bounced to the feet of
Carlos Escobedo who slotted it into the goal. CSUDH went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Looking for the equalizer, Stanislaus State drew a penalty kick 1:13 into the second half. Toro goalkeeper
Chase Gentry preserved the shutout with a big save as he read the ball and dove to the left.
CSUDH broke away in the 68th minute with two spectacular goals. At 67:00,
Leonardo Nogueira dribbled up the left side and found Vargas at the top of the box. Vargas rocketed the ball into the top right corner past the diving Tomas Zajfert, the Warrior goalkeeper. At 67:33, Gentry kicked the ball to Nogueira at midfield. Nogueira caught Zajfert out of position and hit a high-arcing shot from 60-yards out to account for the final score.
With the top seed in the CCAA, the Toros will receive a first-round bye and advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament, hosted by UC San Diego. The semifinals will start on Friday, November 3 with the finals on Sunday, November 5.
