LOS ANGELES – The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team avoided history repeating itself by halting Cal State LA's rally and taking a 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 24-26, 25-19) road win Friday night.
Much like what happened when the two crosstown rivals met at the Torodome last month, the Toros (8-10, 4-5 CCAA) won the first two sets to start out the match. Although the Golden Eagles won the third game to boost the hopes of going for another three-set rally, the Toros put that to a stop in the fourth game with the help of an 9-2 momentum.
It was a good offensive night for the Toros as they combined for a season-high .305 attack percentage. It was also a career night for
Claire Autry, who made 12 kills and no errors for a personal-best .522 percentage, and
Tati Yandall, who blocked six attacks to go along with 10 kills and four digs.
Cathryn Lopez came to the rescue with 20 digs while
Rylee Kiger recorded 20 assists and
Jordan Ramirez notched 18.
Dominguez Hills had hit over .300 in three of the four sets.
The Golden Eagles were held to a .164 attack percentage. Karla Santos, who made a crazy 30-kill, 26-dig night against the Toros in Carson at the last meeting, was held to 18 kills and seven digs Friday. Nicole Efseaff handed out 28 of Los Angeles' 45 assists.
CSUDH's road trip heads north to Cal State Monterey Bay Friday and Cal State East Bay Saturday. Both matches are 7 p.m. starts.
