LA JOLLA –
Cathryn Lopez recorded 14 digs,
Tati Yandall made 14 as the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team fell to UC San Diego in three sets (18-25, 18-25, 25-16) at RIMAC Arena Tuesday evening.
The Toros fall to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Dominguez Hills players were unable to earn double digits in the kills column.
Claire Autry led the effort with nine along with a .167 hit percentage. Despite an off night on the attack and serves, the Toros had relied on defense, making a total of 41 digs and 11 total blocks.
Morelia Castro was credited for five blocks, three of which by herself.
Much like the Toros, no Triton had recorded more than 10 kills. Jessica Rieble recorded nine and Micah Hammond and Jessyca Beksa each had eight.
The Tritons (13-3, 7-1 CCAA) claimed the first two games by scores of 25-18. The Toros entered the break hitting .159. Autry and Smith combined for 13 of the 21 kills before intermission.
The Toros best performance came in the third set. Trailing by eight, the Toros caught momentum with
Marissa Weber serving and got a five-point rally to cut the deficit to 18-13.
The four-match road trip is actually a short drive to crosstown rival Cal State LA Friday at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles snuck away with five-set win at the Torodome last month.
