CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball was a 3-pointer away from erasing a 13-point deficit, but Cal State East Bay's free throws proved to be the difference in the Toros 78-68 loss Saturday night.
Both teams were nearly identical from the field and most statistical columns, which included both teams averaging 40 percent in field goals. The one advantage the Pioneers took full of was on the free throw line, making 20-of-30.
CSUEB controlled the scoreboard most of the night with 30 points coming from Shomari Harris. Morgan Greene and Remy Puo combined for 27 points.
However, CSUDH continued to fight during the fourth quarter and found itself within three points following a 12-3 run which brought the score to 57-60 midway through.
Destinee Williams scored a career-high 14 points while
Simone Thompson saw her third straight 20-point game.
Jocelyne Diaz contributed to 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Cardinal and Gold will host Sonoma State Thursday with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m.
