CHICO — Simone Thompson scored 20 points and was a rebound shy from her first career double-double but the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team fell to Chico State 71-60 Saturday to wrap a short CCAA road trip in Northern California.
It was a career night for the senior Thompson as her nine rebounds matched her personal best of nine rebounds set as a sophomore.
Imari Brown scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half despite picking up her fourth personal foul 35 seconds into it.
Despite the loss, CSUDH (4-11, 1-7 CCAA) did out-rebound Chico State (10-5, 5-4 CCAA) 42-34. Breanna DuBois, Jocelyne Diaz and Destinee Williams each contributed five boards for the Cardinal and Gold.
CSUDH finished the night shooting 42 percent from the field.
Chico State, meanwhile, had two of their starters combine for 26 points while the bench scored 21. The Wildcats finished with a 40 shooting percentage.
The Toros had never had the lead in the game. Chico State had established a 13-4 lead reaching the halfway point in the opening quarter.
After the Wildcats built a 15-point lead with 7:32 left in the half, CSUDH went on to outscore Chico State, 14-8, to cut the deficit to nine by halftime.
The momentum would shift back to Chico State at the start of the second half as it went on a 15-2 run in the span of 4:30 to build a 53-33 lead.
The Toros got as close at 10 points entering the final minute of the game.
The Toros begin a season-most four-game homestand starting with Cal State Monterey Bay Friday at 5:30 p.m.
