TURLOCK — Imari Brown scored 10 points, Simone Thompson added nine but a cold slump in the middle of the contest handed the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team a 54-34 defeat at Stanislaus State Friday night.
The Toros (4-10, 1-6 CCAA) led the first quarter but could only gather 10 points in the second and third periods. The Warriors (8-9, 6-2 CCAA) capitalized on CSUDH's struggle and dropped a combined 31 points in middle quarters.
Both teams didn't take very good care of the ball as the two sides combined for 48 turnovers. Stanislaus State did produced 27 points off the Toros mistakes.
CSUDH got off to a promising start in the first half. The Toros had established their largest lead at 10 with 2:31 left in the half. But the Warriors went on a 11-2 run highlighted by a 3-point shot from Lizzy Alexander within the final seconds put the host ahead 28-25.
The Warriors had led by as many as 16 points on two different occasions. The Toros did manage to win the fourth quarter 14-9. In fact, a Lisa Rhett 3-pointer helped bring the deficit to seven points in the final period.
Although Brown led the Toros in the points column, she got into early foul trouble that limited to her 16 minutes on the floor. Simone Thompson had a rare difficult night shooting from beyond the arc, going 1-for-9.
Dijour Ledbetter grabbed seven of the Toros 33 rebounds to lead that department.
CSUDH heads further north to Chico State Saturday. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
