Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Nogueira Scores Only Goal in Debut to Give Toros Win Over Gators

CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team got itself back on the winning track in dramatic fashion. Leonardo Nogueira, making his Toro debut, scored the match's only goal in the 32nd minute and the Cardinal and Gold silenced San Francisco State to pick up the 1-0 win in CCAA play Friday evening.

The Toros improve to 6-2-1 overall but stay perfect in CCAA play at 3-0-0.

Chase Gentry had only made a pair of saves to earn his first shutout of the season. It is the Toros second overall.

The lone goal of the match in the 32nd minute was a beauty. Angel Ayala feed a perfect pass to Nogueira in the box and the Brazilian got his right foot in enough to flick the ball over Gator keeper Emmanuel Jimenez and into the goal.

CSUDH had a close chance to adding another goal in the 47th minute. Israel Murguia received a pass in the right side of the box and his shot was brilliantly deflected over the crossbar by the Jimenez.

The Gators closest chance to scoring the equalizer was in the 65th minute. Richard Leon took a shot from the left side that not only deflected off of Gentry but ended up hitting the left post.

Jimenez finished the night making four saves.

The Toros won the shooting category 17-12 overall, 5-3 on goal.

CSUDH concludes the season-long homestand Sunday with Cal State Monterey Bay visiting Toro Stadium. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m.
