Ponce Doubles Her Pleasure in 3-0 Win at Hawai'i Pacific

KANEOHE, Hawai'i - Junior newcomer Abigail Ponce struck twice as the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team blanked its second-straight opponent to open the 2016 season, this time in a 3-0 decision at Hawai'i Pacific.

This marks the first time the Toros have won their first two matches of the year since 2011, when CSUDH was victorious in four-straight contests to open the year.

The Toros dominated the match, out-shooting the Sharks 20-4 overall, and causing the HPU keeper to make seven saves on the night compared to just one for the visitors.

Scoreless after 25 minutes of play, Moa Eriksson set up Ponce in the 27th minute, before the striker beat the Shark keeper for a 1-0 advantage.

That's where the score remained until the second half when Louise Kallin doubled the score in the 64th minute, before Ida Eriksson followed her twin sister's lead by setting up Ponce for her second score to put the game away, this strike coming in the 72nd minute.

CSUDH tallied four corners compared to HPU's one, and earned a decisive 12-2 shot advantage after the break.

The Toros conclude their Hawai'ian roadtrip on Tuesday as it battles Chaminade, with first kick set for 1 pm in Honolulu.
