Toros Sweep Host Point Loma to End Day One of Seaside Invite

SAN DIEGO -- Redshirt freshman Tati Yandall made her Cal State Dominguez Hills debut a memorable one by hammering 20 kills in two matches, leading the Toros to a hard-fought 33-31, 30-28, 25-21 sweep over host Point Loma to end day one of the Seaside Invitational after being on the wrong end of a sweep against Western New Mexico to begin the day.

The Toros conclude the tourmament with two matches tomorrow, beginning with perennial power Cal Baptist at 10:45 am.

CSUDH hit just .109 in the sweep over the Sea Lions, but its defense held the hosts to a .051 percentage after posting 10 blocks against just seven for PLNU, with the big block contributing to 13 more attack errors for the green and gold.

Claire Autry helped put down seven balls while Cathryn Lopez digging 13 attacks in the win.  Vanessa Phyakeo and Cecelia Lucas hammered home six kills each while newcomer Antonette Rolda dishing 27 assists to pace the setting corps.

Yandall also proved a threat behind the service line, serving three aces to lead all servers.

The opening match against the Mustangs actually saw the Toros go for a better hitting percentage at .116, but Western New Mexico more than doubled that effort, hitting at a .268 clip.

After battling to a 25-19 first set loss, CSUDH was outscored by 11 in the second before a tough 28-26 loss in the third to complete the sweep.

Rolda dished 16 assists while Lopez led all liberos with 10 digs in the match.
