Serrano's Overtime Goal Lifts Toros to Fifth Shutout Victory

CARSON -- It was a big day for Cal State Dominguez Hills senior defender Kendra Serrano as in addition to help keeping Cal State East Bay's offense silent, the captain delivered the match's only goal 4:50 into overtime that keeps several streaks going.

Along with improving to 5-1-0 overall and 2-0 in CCAA play, the Toros have yet to allow a goal during regulation, running the clock up to 540 minutes.

Although the shots were even at 16, the Pioneers (1-4-2, 0-2-0 CCAA) had several close scoring chances, Elisa Martin had to make nine brilliant saves to keep the Pioneers off the board and preserve her fifth shutout.

One highlight was Martin making a one-hand save off a shot by Carsyn Hoogendoom in the 14th minute. In the 23rd minute, Megan Ravenscroft received a pass into the box but Martin was there for a brilliant save. Martin also had to stop a shot that went through the legs of a fellow defender near the end of regulation.

The Toros closest chance in breaking the ice was in the 59th minute, when Naomi Linares made a perfect cross to Ida Eriksson near the right goal post but the one-touch shot missed wide.

Much like what happened in the Toros 1-0 loss to Simon Fraser in overtime last week, the Cardinal and Gold were awarded a free kick just on the top right side of the box and Serrano arched the shot over many heads and into the left side of the net for the golden goal.

CSUDH will step out of non-conference play one last time Thursday when it will host the PacWest's Concordia Irvine. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
