Toros Run Away From Pioneers in Second Half to Post Fourth Straight Win

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team made scored early in each half that proved to be the difference in its 5-1 CCAA win over Cal State East Bay Sunday afternoon at Toro Stadium.
 
The Toros winners of four straight and unbeaten in their last five, improve to 4-1-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
 
The defense led by Bryan Haley and Emmanuel Corona, where besides Chase Gentry were the only Toros to play the entire match, limited the Pioneers (3-4-0, 0-2-0 CCAA) to eight shots on goal, 12 overall.
 
Four different Toros found the back of the net. Joey Chica scored his fourth and fifth goal of the season on penalty kicks. His first was 1:17 into the match and the second was in the 67th minute. Four of his goals this season have been from the penalty mark. Chica also
 
Paulo Magalhaes first goal as a Toro was the difference in the contest, when 1:48 after halftime his shot from the top of the box bounced to the left side of the goal. Magalhaes was also credited an assist when he helped Oscar Sanchez score his first goal as a Toro in the 76th minute.
 
Angel Ayala joined that group when he scored from inside the penalty area in the 86th minute.
 
CSUDH dominated the shooting column 24-12 overall, 18-7 in the second half. Gentry had to make seven saves on the day, two shy from his career-high.
 
Douglas McNeill, who took over for starter Ariel Rosenmann following an injury at 7:43, made six saves but conceded four of the five goals.
 
CSUDH steps out of conference play one final week starting Thursday, when it hosts Concordia Irvine at 7 p.m.
