Yandall's 19 Not Enough as Toros Fall in Five at Cal State San Marcos

SAN MARCOS -- Redshirt freshman Tati Yandall led all hitters with 19 kills, but 13 more attack errors for Cal State Dominguez Hills proved the difference as host Cal State San Marcos survived a spirited Toro comeback attempt in taking a 3-2 win in The Sports Center.

CSUDH drops to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in CCAA play, having dropped three-straight matches.

The hosts got off to a quick start, only to see the Toros charge back behind the strong serve of Kylie Osgood and kills by Yandall and Cecelia Lucas to take an 11-8 edge in the first, maintaining its edge before Vanessa Phyakeo put the set away with her lone kill of the night.

San Marcos regrouped to take a close second set before storming to a third set win to grab the lead, before Osgood's serve again put CSUDH on the right track in the fourth, staking them to a 3-0 lead.

The set became a back-and-forth affair with 10 ties before the Toros held set point at 24-23, with San Marcos pushing the cardinal and gold past the 25-point plateau needed.

The two teams tied again at 25, 26 and 27, before a Hailey Smith putaway and block assist by Claire Autry and Malerie Crenshaw pushed the match to a fifth set.

After the teams split the first eight points, the Cougars went on an 8-3 run to all but put the game away, withstanding a late Toro rally to claim the match with a 15-9 fifth set win.

Autry added 14 and Lucas nine in the setback, while Antonette Rolda put up 46 assists, good for her second best effort of the year.

CSUDH kicks off its CCAA home opener next Friday with arguably its toughest weekend of the year, hosting CS San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona.
