Yandall's Record Book Performance Leads Toros to 3-1 Win Over MSUB as CSUDH Splits on Day

CARSON -- After a disappointing four-set lost as the middle of yesterday's five matches, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team came back strong in the morning match on the final day of the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase, taking down Montana State Billings in four behind a career-high 23 kills from redshirt freshman Tati Yandall.

In the nightcap, however, Azusa Pacific proved too tough in taking a 25-21, 25-13, 15-25, 25-13 win to move the Toros to 2-2 overall for the tournament.

Yandall's effort tied her for 6th in the CSUDH record book in a rally scoring match, and helped make head coach Jen Adeva's birthday a celebratory one in the 25-19, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19 win to open the day's play.

The Toros came out on fire to open the match, riding Antonette Rolda's serve and Claire Autry's arm to an 12-0 lead.  The Jackets managed to quell the deluge and narrow their deficit to 14-11 to prompt a CSUDH time out.  The break did wonders as the Toros scored the next two points to provide an even bigger cushion, taking the wire-to-wire set by a 25-19 count.

After Billings knotted the match at 1-1 in a close second set, the Toros recaptured their early form in set three as Yandall and Hailey Smith began to take charge as the pair combined for seven of the team's final 11 points in the frame to take a 2-1 lead.

CSUDH took a 7-3 lead in the fourth after three MSUB errors accounted for the last three points, before a Cecelia Lucas flush gave the Toros a 22-17 lead, all but putting the match away.

Completing her career effort, Yandall did just that after Yandall belted a pair of kills with CSUDH up 23-19, ending the match with a flurry.

The Toros hit a season-high .225 for the match, also earning season bests in kills, assists, service aces, digs and points.  Autry finished with 11 putaways and Smith 10, while Kylie Osgood saved 27 balls as the libero.

Rolda, meanwhile, bounced back to the tune of a career-high 51 assists, spreading the wealth to seven different hitters.

Azusa Pacific outhit the Toros .129 to .066 in the final match of the tourney, winning in all major categories except for blocks.

Autry paced the hosts with nine kills, with Yandall adding seven and Morgan Soto five, with Soto and Cathryn Lopez leading the cardinal and gold in digs with 10 each.

The Toros kick off CCAA play on the road next weekend, traveling to perennial power UC San Diego for a 7 pm first serve on Friday.
