Feinstein Leads Toros to Season-Opening 2-0 Win at BYU-Hawai'i

LAIE, Hawai'i -- Graduate student and captain Sami Feinstein made sure the start of her sixth and final campaign as a Cal State Dominguez Hills Toro began with a bang, scoring in the eighth minute to lead her team to a 2-0 win at BYU-Hawai'i to kick off the 2016 season.

The Toros move to 1-0 on the year, the first time since the 2013 CSUDH has claimed a season opener.

Feinstein wasted little time in getting the Cardinal and Gold on the board, taking a cross by Anju Takei and blasting her shot past the Seasider keeper at 7:38 to open the scoring, one of four attempts in the period for the Toros.

That's where the score remained until the 69th minute when Kelly Garzon sent a through ball to senior Daisy Vite, who converted for an insurance goal.

The Toros managed just seven shots on the day with five on frame, but the Seasiders were even less efficient on offense against a stingy Toro defense as the hosts fired off just four shots, with two on frame.

Keepers Elisa Martin and Michelle Tuiaea combined for the shutout, with Tuiaea earning the first save of her Toro career.

CSUDH looks to keep its winning ways at Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday, with first kick set for 6 p.m. PDT.
