Women's Basketball Set to Face Seawolves Again in NCAA Tournament Opener

AZUSA -- The road to Indianapolis for the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship begins Friday for Cal State Dominguez Hills as the seventh-seeded Toros will drive to the campus of Azusa Pacific to take on second-seed Alaska Anchorage at 2:30 p.m. The first round contest will be a rematch between the two universities, with the Seawolves running away from the Toros in Anaheim on Halloween Night during the season-opening weekend.

The game can be heard live via audio for free on the Toro Sports Network with David Smock and Marc Serber calling the action.

Alaska is a really tough draw for us and we know how tough they are from having played them early in the year. They have depth and experience and are hungry to advance in the NCAA tourney. We are going to have our work cut out for us and hope that we can be competitive in this first round matchup."


Dancing Again!
- Cal State Dominguez Hills making its eighth appearance - fourth in five years - in the NCAA Tournament in program history. The Toros are 1-7 (.125) all-time in the tournament. The lone win was in the 1994-95 season.
- The Toros were eliminated by crosstown rival Cal Poly Pomona in the first round last season, losing 61-57 in Anchorage, Alaska.

We Meet Again, Seawolves
- The Toros and Seawolves met earlier in the season in the CCA-Disney DII Tipoff Classic in Anaheim on Halloween night. Both teams were even throughout the first half but a second half surge enabled UAA to run away with an 82-61 win over the Toros at the Anaheim Convention Center.
- Imari Brown paced the Toros with 16 points off the bench. She also came up a rebound short from a double-double.
- Jenna Buchanan had a monster 28 points to lead the Seawolves.
- This is the seventh meeting between CSUDH and UAA, with the Seawolves owning a 5-1 record against the Toros.
- The Toros last and only win was Nov. 22, 1997, when they edged the host Seawolves 52-49.

What Happens Next?
- The winner of the contest will meet the winner of the other matchup between third-seed Cal Baptist and six-seed Academy of Art in the second round Saturday at 5 p.m.
