Williams' No-No the Story as Coyotes Hold Toros Scoreless in Sweep

CARSON -- Cal State San Bernardino pitcher Cassandra Williams was today's story to open the CCAA twinbill against host Cal State Dominguez Hills, tossing her first-career no-hitter as she fanned nine Toros en route to a 5-0 win before she combined for a shutout in a 9-0 nightcap outing.

Jazmyne Cortinas reached base thrice with three walks in the game one loss, while Madison Murphy (pictured) earned CSUDH's only two hits on the day.

The losses drop the Toros to 7-14 overall, and 4-10 in the CCAA.

A Coyote home run in the first accounted for the lone run Williams would need on the day, with the Yotes adding four in the seventh with a wild pitch and throwing error aiding to CSUDH's demise.

Williams tossed 116 pitches in the no-hitter, fanning nine batters while allowing six free passes.

CSUDH left two on in the third to squander its biggest opportunity en route to leaving six runners on base in the game.

The nightcap looked promising after CSUSB struck for a run in the first inning as Murphy stroked the first hit for the Cardinal and Gold on a 1-0 pitch from Williams, who started the nightcap.

The visitors, however, put a quick end to any hopes of the Toros gaining momentum to rest as the sent 12 batters to the plate in the second, scoring seven runs on four hits with a huge Toro error leading to CSUSB's surge.

Williams ran into trouble in the third after two out as Murphy connected for her second hit of the game, and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches.

That brought in reliever Jackie DeLoza, who hit the first batter she faced but induced a fielder's choice to escape the bases-loaded rally.

CSUSB added a run in the fifth to make it 9-0, and DeLoza fanned two of the final batters she faced to end the game via the run-rule.

The two teams hook up again for another twinbill tomorrow, with first pitch of game one set for 12 noon.
