Gators Make Toros See Red Instead of Pink After Sweeping Today's Triple

CARSON -- Setting the tone with three runs each in an offensive first inning prior to rain hitting the greater southern California area yesterday and prompting a postponement of yesterday's softball nightcap featuring San Francisco State and Cal State Dominguez Hills, the two teams continued to batter the ball and the opposing pitcher as play resumed, ultimately resulting in a 9-7 decision for SFSU before the visitors took 3-2 and 10-4 (10) decisions to sweep the triple on Toro Diamond, spoiling Think Pink day in Carson.

With the three losses, CSUDH falls to 8-19 overall, and 5-15 in the CCAA.

In the continuation game that was stopped heading into the bottom of the second inning knotted at 3-3, highlighted by a solo shot to lead off CSUDH's first at bat of the game by Madison Murphy, the Toros took the lead two innings later on a Jazmin Guzman RBI single.

The Gators, however, warmed up in the fifth by scoring four to take a 7-4 lead, before adding a pair in the seventh for a 5-run cushion.

The Toros, however, would mount their own comeback as RBI doubles by Damari Simon, Lyzette Reveles and Ivy Campbell brought CSUDH to within 9-7, bringing the tying run to the plate in Renee Galindo.

Relief pitcher Lindsey Cassidy, however, fanned Galindo on a 3-2 pitch to preserve the win and even the series at one game each.

Simon and Analisa Nicholson each belted 3 hits in the loss, while starter Victoria Franks went the distance in dropping to 2-8.

Game two today lacked the offensive firepower of game one, but Nicholson and Simon both belted solo shots to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the seventh.

That's when the visitors mounted a rally, using a Toro error to score the winning run.

Simon and Galindo each belted a pair of hits in the loss, with Jamie Duran dropping to 5-9 after tossing a complete game.

The final game was knotted at 4-4 heading into the 10th inning after Simon's 3-for-5 efort brought home three of the four runs.

SFSU, however, used a huge 10th inning, sending 12 batters to the plate and knocking four hits, all while leaving three on base.

Starter Alyssa Valinches dropped to 1-2 after seeing her first action since February 19, tossing 9.1 innings of work while fanning eight batters.

CSUDH travels to Hayward next weekend for a four-game set at Cal State East Bay, for twinbills on Friday and Saturday.
