Duran Rebounds in 4-0 Win as Toros Go Yard Twice in Opener; Nightcap Postponed Due to Rain

CARSON -- After a rough outing in her last start on Saturday, senior Jamie Duran came back with a vengeance against visiting San Francisco State as she tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering six hits while fanning five against no walks.

Jasmine Ruiz and Lyzette Reveles both helped Duran's cause with 2-run home runs each.

The Toros wasted little time in getting on the board as Ruiz followed a hit batter with a towering shot down the left field line that just inched fair to give CSUDH a quick 2-0 lead.  That's where the score remained until the fourth inning when Dimari Simon drew a leadoff walk.  After pinch runner Kayla Lock moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, Reveles hammered her own two-run shot over the left field fence to double the Toro lead.

That was plenty for Duran, who went the distance in the win, facing 28 batters on 94 pitches to pick up her fifth win of the year.

Seven different Toros knocked a base hit each in the win.

The nightcap was offensive early as the Gators scored thrice, only to see the Toros answer with three of their own as Madison Murphy led off the bottom of the first with a towering shot to deep center, before Analisa Nicholson brought home Ruiz with an RBI double, with Nicholson scoring herself on a Simon single through the right side.

That's when the rain hit, postponing the game until tomorrow morning at 10 am, with the regularly scheduled twinbill to follow shortly after.
