Warriors Sweep Toros in Tuesday Twinbill

TURLOCK -- Host Stanislaus State spoiled Cal State Dominguez Hills senior Jamie Duran's birthday in game one of today's California Collegiate Athletic Association twinbill after tallying 11 hits en route to a 5-1 win under picture perfect skies, before taking an 8-2 decision in the nightcap to sweep the double dip.

Jasmine Ruiz roped a pair of hits with Damari Simon bringing home the lone run as CSUDH falls to 6-11, 3-7 CCAA.

CSUDH found itself in a hole early, managing just one hit in the first five innings while the hosts took a 3-0 lead.  The Toros got on the board in the sixth on a Simon RBI double to plate Ruiz, but the Warriors answered with two runs in their sixth inning at-bat for the final count.

Duran suffered the loss, fanning four against two walks.

The nightcap got off to a better start as Ruiz singled home Madison Murphy in the first inning after Murphy laced the first pitch of the game up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Stanislaus, however, answered with a pair in each of the first two innings and added one in the third for a 5-1 lead.

CSUDH struck back in the fourth on a Warrior error, only to see the hosts put the game away with three in the fifth to account for the final tally.

Ruiz knocked a pair of hits in the loss as each side committed two miscues.

The two teams conclude their four-game set tomorrow, with first pitch of game one set for 12 noon on the Warrior Softball Field.
