Duran Super as Toros Mercy New Mexico Highlands to Conclude Desert Stinger

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Senior Jamie Duran came up huge on Super Bowl Sunday during the final day of the Desert Stinger Tournament, tossing a 3-hit shutout against New Mexico Highlands as Cal State Dominguez Hills earned an 8-0 victory in a contest that ended after 6.0 innings due to the mercy run rule.

The Toros improve to 3-2 on the year with Duran picking up two of the wins and was bolstered today by Alexis Viramontes, who clubbed three hits while driving home a pair.

CSUDH picked up all the runs it would need in its first at-bat as three hits and two huge Highlands errors contributed to the deluge, with RBI knocks by Lyzette Reveles and Ivy Campbell, along with a bases-loaded walk by Jazmyne Cortinas accounting for three of the scores to make it 5-0.

The second inning saw a pair of doubles earn another Toro run with Analisa Nicholson's two-bagger driving home Viramontes, before Viramontes began the sixth inning rally with the third of her three hits, scoring on a Jasmine Ruiz double.

After an error allowed Ruiz to move to third, Nicholson earned her RBI by bouncing out to shortstop to complete the scoring.

Duran was sensational as she improved to 2-1 on the year, inducing 10 ground outs on 75 total pitches.

CSUDH kicks off CCAA play next weekend on the road, traveling to league newcomer CS San Marcos for a four-game set.
