Toros Complete Three-Game Sweep Over San Diego Christian in Two Walkoff Fashions

CARSON -- The 2016 Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball season is only three games in, and all of them have been Toro walkoffs.

In a 'let's play two' matchup with the NAIA's San Diego Christian Saturday afternoon, leadoff man Brandon Polizzi would get on base and set up a walkoff hit by No. 2 hitter Nick Morelli to help the Toros claim a pair of 5-4 wins over the Hawks.

Polizzi started the ninth inning of game one with a walk and Morelli followed with a fly ball to right center where a miscommunication between the Hawks' center and right fielders collided and allowed Polizzi to score the game-winning run.

A few hours later, Polizzi led off the seventh of game two with a triple down the left field line and on one pitch Morelli hit a single to center to bring home the winning run.

CSUDH concludes the opening weekend with the GNAC's Western Oregon visiting Sunday at 11 a.m.

Game 1 – CSUDH 5, SDC 4
The Toros (3-0) grabbed a 4-0 lead by the third inning of game one and was backed by an outstanding Joe Bresson, who was making his CSUDH debut. The right-hander threw a three-hit shutout in six innings.

CSUDH's bullpen, however, ran into trouble in the seventh that allowed the Hawks to rally. After SDC (1-3) quickly loaded the bases on Jeffrey Gogue, Peter Fierros tried to halt the Hawks momentum but triple down the right field line cleared the basees and single to left center tied the game at four runs apiece.

Anthony Cortez picked up his second straight win of the season after retiring the ninth inning in order.

Game 2 – CSUDH 5, SDC 4
Left-hander Ethan Etchebarren held runners to at least second base in his first three innings of work but the Hawks would put four runs in the fourth using a leadoff double followed by a home run. The Hawks added the third and fourth runs on a RBI single and a double play.

The Toros rally in the fifth began with Shawn Sweeney singling up the middle and Trevor North and Polizzi walked to load the bases with nobody out. Morelli brought the first run in with a sacrifice fly deep in left field foul territory and the No. 3-man Brady Conlan delivered a two-run triple to cut the deficit down to one. Parker Hokuf followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to allow Conlan to score the tying run.

San Diego Christian threatened to retake the lead in the seventh with the bases loaded but hit Gogue (1-0) managed to get the Hawks to hit into a inning-ending double play.
