Toros Can't Hold on to Early Lead; Lancers Rally to Win Game Two in 13 Innings

RIVERSIDE — The Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team tallied five unearned runs in the first two innings and was one strike away from the win, but Cal Baptist completed the rally in the ninth on a wild pitch and walked away with a 6-5 victory over the Toros in 13 innings Friday night in game two of a three-game non-conference series.

The series moves back to Toro Field for the finale Saturday at noon.

It was a rough evening for both teams. The Lancers (4-1) committed a season-high six errors throughout the evening, the Toros (3-3) had failed to score on other opportunities and even stranded 14 runners.

CSUDH grabbed an lead in the first inning when a fielding error following Parker Hokuf's single allowed Brandon Polizzi to score from second. Lester Salcedo hit one up the middle to score Hokuf from third to take a 2-0 lead.

Tyler McLurg led off the second with a walk and back-to-back fielding errors against the Lancers allowed the catcher to score. Nick Morelli did more damage with a two-run single up the middle.

Joe Bresson kept the Toros up front despite allowing three runs in five innings on the mound.

Peter Fierros was solid since coming out of the bullpen in the seventh until he ran into trouble in the ninth. CBU's Andrew Montoya hit a one-out double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

CSUDH came close to breaking the 5-5 tie in the 12th with runners at the corners and two outs, but Travis Booth (1-0) got a strikeout to strand the runners.

CBU's Jake Galloway hit a one-out triple to right field off of Jeffrey Gogue (1-1) and Brad Rinehart attempted a squeeze play that turned into a walkoff hit.
