Gillett Scores 24 Points in Women's Basketball's Exhibition Loss to Fresno State

FRESNO – Despite a struggling first quarter, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball came to their senses and started dropping points in a 73-60 exhibition loss to NCAA Division I Fresno State Wednesday night.
 
Although this one is off the record, Kayla Gillett bested her career mark of 21 points by scoring 24 against the Bulldogs, which included four of the Toros five 3-pointers made. Simone Thompson had the fifth bucket shot from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points. Destinee Williams rounded out the Cardinal and Gold in double figures with 10 points. She also had 13 rebounds to complete a double-double.
 
Speaking of rebounding, CSUDH had also kept pace with Fresno State in that column, with the Bulldogs edging the Toros 41-40. Bulldog Bego Faz Davalos had a big night on the glass with 18 rebounds.
 
Candice White led the entire Fresno State roster with 21 points.
 
It was indeed a rough opening quarter for the Toros, who at the end of the period found themselves trailing the Bulldogs 20-5.
 
The Toros did start to find the net as they dropped 22 points to head into intermission trailing 39-27.
 
Fresno State had led by as many as 21 points near the end of the third quarter.
 
CSUDH will now finish the season in CCAA play, starting Friday, December 16 at crosstown rival Cal State LA. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
