Stanislaus State Sweeps Toros on Senior Night

CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team's senior night was spoiled by Stanislaus State as the Warriors claimed the regular-season finale in three sets (25-19, 25-12, 25-21) Saturday evening.
 
Both teams now turn their attention to the CCAA Championship on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino beginning Thursday. The Toros (9-16, 6-11 CCAA) will meet North Division champions Chico State in the first round with first serve to be announced by the conference later. The Wildcats snuck by the Toros in five sets 24 hours ago.
 
On a night where they honored their seniors Vanessa Phyakeo and Natalie Lopez, the Toros could not find any rhythm on the offensive category, hitting a cold .062 attack percentage. Morgan Soto led the effort with eight kills.
 
Kylie Osgood stopped 12 balls from hitting the court to pace the Cardinal and Gold in that column. Antonette Rolda and Rylee Kiger combined for 26 assists on the night.
 
After the Warriors (13-14, 10-8 CCAA) cruised in the first two sets, the Toros made a valiant effort to try and force a fourth game. CSUDH opened the third round by winning five of the first six rallies.
 
The Warriors tied the game 16 apiece but the Toros got kills from Hailey Smith, Morgan Soto and Morelia Castro to take a 19-17 lead.
 
A Warrior attack error extended the Toros lead to 21-18 but following a Stanislaus State timeout, the Warriors rebounded and won seven straight to claim the game and match.
