No. 20 Seawolves Run Away With Shutout Win Over Toros

PETALUMA – The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team had 14 shots but couldn't find the back of the net as No. 20 Sonoma State claimed a 3-0 victory Friday to earn a first-round bye to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships.

With Stanislaus State defeating Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside later in the afternoon, it eliminated the Toros (7-9-0, 4-7-0 CCAA 12 points) from CCAA Championship contention with one match remaining. The Warriors, who have 15 points, can finish no worse than eighth in the CCAA standings. The Toros are currently 10th in the table.

CSUDH will conclude the 2016 regular-season further north of the state at Humboldt State Saturday. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m.

The Seawolves (11-2-2, 9-1-1 CCAA, 28 points) scored the eventual match winner in the 36th minute. Sara Van Wagoner crossed it on the right side to Hollie Depina who punched it home from close range.

It was the first of a two assist day for Van Wagoner. She would assist the second goal in the 57th minute. Taylor Enzler would chip a shot that goes over goalkeeper Elisa Martin.

The match became out of the Toros reach in the 72nd minute. Miriam Bloom, who had already assisted Enzler's goal, earned her second on the day when she took a corner kick and Alex Sifuentes was able to get a touch inside a scrum that reached the back of the net.

The Toros had two of their 14 shots on goal. Martin had to make seven saves on the Seawolves 18 shots.
