Serrano's Goal the Difference in Toros Season Finale Win Over Jacks

ARCATA – Kendra Serrano closed the book on her Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer career on a high note.

Playing her final match as a Toro, the captain and defender Serrano scored her second goal of the season the same way she scored her first one, a free kick in the 60th minute. It proved to be the difference in the Cardinal and Gold's 1-0 win over host Humboldt State Saturday afternoon.

The Toros end their season 8-9-0 overall and 5-7-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, a four-win improvement from last season.

After a slow start offensively for both sides, Ida Eriksson got the momentum started in the 23rd minute. The junior stole the ball from a defender and forced a 1-on-1 matchup with goalkeeper Katelin Talbert. Eriksson went as close as she can and her shot hit the crossbar.

Dana Dibble had another close opportunity a few minutes later. She aimed to the left side of the goal and Talbert managed to get one hand on it for the save.

The Jacks came up with a couple of close chances shortly after Serrano's goal. A defensive mistake was near costly as it allowed the Jacks to set up a shot inside the box but Elisa Martin made the stop.

An uncovered Sami Feinstein came close to getting a goal on her final match as her header off a free kick taken by Lauren Hall on the right side went over the crossbar.

Katrina Cohen had a close chance to provide an insurance goal in the 87th minute, when her shot hit the post.

The Jacks had outshot the Toros in both categories, 10-7 overall, 7-3 on goal.
