No. 18 Coyotes Take Care of Toros in Three

SAN BERNARDINO -- A Rylee Kiger ace gave Cal State Dominguez Hills a 22-17 lead in the opening set against No. 18 and host Cal State San Bernardino, but the Coyotes reeled off eight of the next nine points to take a 25-23 set en route to a three-set sweep over the Toros.

With the loss, CSUDH drops to 7-14 overall, and 4-9 in CCAA play.

Four points off the serve of Claire Autry pushed CSUDH's lead to 10-5 in the first set, before the Yotes forged a 14-all tie 13 points later.

Antonette Rolda, however, followed Autry's lead with two clutch serves to give the Toros a 16-14 lead, with a Hailey Smith service ace and Coyote error pushing the margin to 20-16.  

After a CSUSB time out, however, the Yotes responded with a 6-2 run to knot the score at 22 apiece, and after Vanessa Phyakeo put the Toros to within two points of the set, the hosts replied with three straight points to claim the opener.

The Coyotes rode that momentum to easy victories in the final two sets, posting six more kills and 11 fewer attack errors than the Cardinal and Gold to take the sweep.

Autry led the Toros with 11 kills, while Malerie Crenshaw posted 4 blocks.

CSUDH continues CCAA play away from home with single matches the next two weeks, playing at Humboldt State on October 27 and at Cal State LA on November 4.
