Women's Soccer Wins Again in Overtime; Improves to 4-0 in CCAA Play

CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team showed that patience pays off.

Trailing by one at the half, the Toros rallied with a returning Louise Kallin scoring the equalizer and freshman Sarya Thomas netting the golden goal 2:41 into overtime that gave the Cardinal and Gold a 2-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday afternoon.

It is the second time in three days the Toros had to play extra minutes and the fourth this season.

Despite having to put in more time on the pitch, the Toros continue to add more wins on a turnaround season, going 7-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in CCAA play.

CSUDH will be tested as it will not only go on the road for the first time in a month but for the first time in conference play. The four-match road trip begins down the road at Cal State LA Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

The Otters (4-6-0, 2-4-0 CCAA) took advantage on a corner kick opportunity in the 13th minute. Katrina Thompson, on the right side, sent it to the left goal post where Mariya Fefilova got a piece of it in a crowded penalty box for her first goal of the season.

Only three shots were recorded the first half, the Toros only taking one.

Kallin, who missed the last four matches to injury, made her presence felt in the 51st minute. Kendra Serrano sent a free kick from midfield to Jada Thomas, who made several touches before sending it to Kallin inside the box. Kallin quickly knocked it in for the equalizer.

CSUDH ended up taking six shots in the second half while the Otters were held to three.

Although the Otters struck right away in the overtime period, the Toros turned the tide around starting with Hailey Yogi. Yogi sent the ball up the middle and Abigail Ponce rerouted it on a back foot touch to Thomas who made a two-touch shot at the top of the box to the left post for the golden goal.
