Women's Basketball Routs Sonoma State for Sixth Straight Win

ROHNERT PARK — Facing a rare part of the schedule where Cal State Dominguez Hills' women's basketball team plays at home and then away two days later, the Toros got off to a slow start but finished strong in the second half to run past Sonoma State 76-45 Saturday night.

The Toros have won seven straight to improve the overall record to 9-6 and remain a perfect 7-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

CSUDH trailed in the first quarter 14-13 but bounced back in the second and never looked back the rest of the way. The Toros outscored the Seawolves (6-10, 1-6 CCAA) 63-31 in the other three quarters, 39-20 in the second half.

Breanne Garcia and Imari Brown each gathered 15 points to lead both teams, Monay Lee followed with 13 and Julia Poecksteiner scored all her dozen points in the second half.

Lee finished wit six rebounds while Brown and Lisa Rhett each gathered five.

The Toros shot 48.4 percent from the field while holding the Seawolves to 30.4. Sonoma State, however, won the rebounding 42-35.

After a slow start in the opening quarter which saw the Toros trailing 14-13. The Toros tied it at 16 points apiece and jumped ahead 19-18 on Rhett's 3-pointer.

CSUDH went on a 9-3 run within the final two minutes to take a 37-25 lead at the half. Garcia led the pack with 13 points with Lee right behind her with 11.

The 45 points the Seawolves scored is the fewest the Toros allowed this season.

The Toros return home to play host to Humboldt State Friday. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
