Toros Tame Broncos 92-68 for Eighth Straight Win

CARSON —Five different members of Cal State Dominguez Hills' women's basketball team reached double figures as the Toros cruised to their eighth straight win with a 92-68 victory over crosstown rivals Cal Poly Pomona at the Torodome Saturday night.

The Toros improve to 11-6 overall, 9-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

With the Toros shooting an impressive 52.5 percent from the floor, Imari Brown had 21 points to go along with seven rebounds, Breanne Garcia finished one point behind her while Femi Hamilton had a season-high 14 points. Bridget Jenkins finished with 11 off the bench and Kielyn Wilson joined the pack late in the fourth quarter with 11.

In addition to reaching the half century mark in shooting percentage, the Toros' 92 points scored is a season-high, besting 88 scored against the Academy of Art earlier in the season.

Although Monay Lee collected six points, she was a major contributor to the contest with seven rebounds and assists each. 

Cal Poly Pomona did have three players in double figures, but the Toros held their leading scorer Jordyn Shane to 11 points. Priscilla Brooks led the Broncos with 18 points. Altogether the Broncos shot 41.8 percent.

The Toros had dominated the first half to take a 43-22 lead into the break, they never gave the Broncos any momentum throughout the contest. Hamilton scored seven of her 10 first-half points in the opening quarter while Garcia scored eight of her 12 first-half points in the second quarter.

CSUDH took a 12-point lead in the first quarter but the Broncos got as close as nine early in the second but a 19-6 Toro run set the tone of the game.

The Toros go back on the road next weekend starting with UC San Diego Friday, Cal State San Bernardino Saturday. Tipoff for both games are at 5:30 p.m.
