Men's Soccer Strikes Early to Get First Win of the Season

AZUSA – Five different members of Cal State Dominguez Hills' men's soccer team found the back of the net in the span of 60 minutes as the Toros picked up the first win of the 2015 season with a 5-1 pounding at Azusa Pacific in front of a crowd of 1,171 at the Cougars' Soccer Complex Saturday evening.

Mike Diaz and Jaime Rios each had a goal and an assist to highlight the night for CSUDH. Pedro Velasquez scored what would be the eventual match winner in the 20th minute while Ehi Isibor, and Josh Robinson would find the back of the net.

Altogether, the Toros (1-1) outshot the Cougars (0-2) 15-10. Netminder Chase Gentry had to make only one save to earn his first win as a Toro. His counterpart, Tyler Jaramillo, stopped five shots.

Joey Chica got the Toros offense going by feeding the ball to Diaz in the middle, who delivered the finishing touch to the lower corner for the first goal of the season.

In the 20th minute, Velasquez found the loose ball following a corner kick and send it into the goal for the match winner.

Azusa Pacific managed to get its lone goal off a corner kick in the 43rd minute and went into the locker room trailing CSUDH 2-1. Isibor would regain the two-goal lead with a header from Rios in the 57th minute and Rios followed with his goal with help from Diaz two minutes later. Robinson would put the match out of the Cougars reach in the 61st minute. The senior received a pass from Bruno Montini up the middle and driven it to the left side of the goal.

CSUDH's four-match road swing shifts over to Riverside where it will take on Cal Baptist Tuesday at 4 p.m.
