Tritons Stifle Toros in 3-0 Sweep

LA JOLLA -- One night after giving No. 17 Cal State San Bernardino a run for its money in a 3-1 loss, Cal State Dominguez Hills came out flat tonight against another perennial power in UC San Diego, and the result was a predictable 3-0 sweep at the hands of the Tritons.

Alijah Gunsaulus tallied a team-high 6 kills for the Toros, who hit just .078 for the match.

The Tritons controlled the match from the start after taking a 6-2 lead in the first, pushing it to 16-5 midway through the set in the eventual 25-17 win.

CSUDH made a match of it in the second thanks to Briana Boyd's serve that led to three attack errors for the Tritons and a 7-6 Toro lead, but Danielle Dahle took over and righted the Triton ship, bringing UCSD to a 21-12 lead en route to a 25-15 win.

After intermission, the Toros looked to gain a spark in taking a 4-1 lead early, but UCSD went on a 5-1 run to take the lead.

Undaunted, Boyd's serve again brought the Toros back to a 10-7 edge, with a Triton attack error giving CSUDH its biggest lead at 13-9.

A Toro service error, however, spurred a 4-0 Triton run in the back-and-forth set, with UCSD finally gaining control and taking the lead for good on an attack error by the visitors at 17-17, and scoring eight of the final 11 points in the sweep.

Meagan Wright with 14 and Dahle at 13 paced all hitters, while Breanna Golsch's 5 and Claire Autry's 4 aiding the Toro cause.

CSUDH returns home for a Tuesday match-up against Cal Poly Pomona, set for a 7 pm first serve.  The match will be streamed live on CollegeTVTicket.com, with Marc Serber calling all the play by play live.
