Butcher's Score Not Enough in 3-1 Setback at Cal Poly Pomona

POMONA -- Freshman Theresa Butcher equalized this afternoon's contest at Cal Poly Pomona after a scramble in front of the net in the 38th minute, but the host Broncos added a late goal in the half and an insurance goal minutes into the second half to hand visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills a 3-1 loss on a hot and sunny Friday.

The loss drops the Toros to 1-6, 0-3 CCAA.

Despite being on opposite ends of the CCAA standings, the Toros played the Broncos even in the first half, netting the same amount of shots (6) as the hosts.

CPP, however, made the most of its chances after scoring 1v1 in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

Butcher, however, equalized 11 minutes later after collecting a loose ball in front of the Bronco net and sending it past the Bronco keeper to knot the game at 1-1.

That momentum didn't last long as the Broncos took the lead for good just six minutes later after Hailey James' shot went off the woodwork and ricocheted behind keeper Elisa Martin, with CPP adding an insurance goal in the second half to put the game away.

Martin made six saves in net while Butcher sent two of her three shots on frame.

CSUDH continues its southern California roadtrip on Sunday, taking on CS San Bernardino at 7 pm.
