Another Early Second-Half Goal Dooms Women's Soccer

CARSON -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team came up short for the second consecutive contest. Despite a brilliant goal by Johana Rosas to tie the match in the first half, Sonoma State regained the lead in the 54th minute and left Toro Stadium with a 2-1 California Collegiate Athletic Conference win on a hot Sunday afternoon.

The Toros drop to 1-5-0 overall, 0-2-0 in CCAA play while Sonoma State improved to 3-1-2, 1-0-1 CCAA.

It took 15 minutes for a team to get on the scoreboard. Sonoma State jumped ahead when Sara Van Wagoner set up a beautiful cross from the left end line to find the head of Marissa Marable.

The lead didn't last long, though. While the Seawolves were trying to push forward from their own goal box, Rosas broke the rhythm and stole the ball, made a few touches and then fired over keeper Ashley Luis to even the score one apiece in the 17th minute.

Much like the 2-1 defeat to Humboldt State Friday, the Seawolves broke the 1-1 tie in the 52nd minute. Van Wagoner's shot from the top of the box got the glove of Alexia Flippin and off the left post, but Bella Amyx was there to put the ball away and give her team the lead.

The Toros continue CCAA play next weekend. They visit Cal Poly Pomona Friday before visiting Cal State San Bernardino Sunday.
