Men's Soccer Cruises by College of Idaho in Road Trip Finale

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team got one last tune-up Monday before the California Collegiate Athletic Association season opener.

Pedro Velasquez and Josh Robinson both scored their second goals of the season in each half and CSUDH's defense limited the College of Idaho to two shots as the Toros shutout the NAIA member Coyotes 2-0.

The Toros, winners of four straight, conclude non-conference play 4-1, as well as their four-match road trip, and return home to open league play against Humboldt State at the StubHub! Center Friday. Kickoff is set to follow the women's match at approximately 7 p.m.

CSUDH dominated the match on paper, outshooting the Coyotes 23-2. Colin Smith, making his season debut with the Toros, didn't have to make a save; while on the other side of the pitch, Grant Billings had to make nine of 11 total saves.

Velasquez scored the match-winning goal in the 29th minute. Tony Alfaro's 23-yard free kick was blocked but Velasquez knocked in the rebound to the bottom right side of the net.

In the 77th minute, Robinson ran into the Coyote zone and flicked the loose ball past Billings for the insurance goal.

The Toros have made a turnaround on both ends of the pitch following the 3-0 season-opening loss to Point Loma. Since then, CSUDH has outscored opponents 11-2 and have outshot the last four opponents 77-32.

The Toros return home to open California Collegiate Athletic Association play Friday against Humboldt State at the StubHub! Center. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in the Main Stadium.
