CARSON -- Entering his ninth year overall in the profession, sports information veteran Rick Hoskin has been named the Cal State Dominguez Hills Assistant Sports Information Director, it was announced by CSUDH Assistant Athletics Director Mel Miranda.

Hoskin will be responsible for all facets of the sports information office, while creating more video features and upgrading the visual presence on the website.

Hoskin comes to the Toros after spending three years at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he served as the Interim Assistant Director of Athletics/Communications as part of his three years as a Panther.

Prior to Davenport, Hoskin spent two years as a graduate assistant for sports information at NCAA Division I Gonzaga University. While working on his Master's Degree in sport & athletic administration, he served as the primary contact for baseball, women's soccer, tennis and indoor track and field. The baseball program gained national recognition during Hoskin's tenure, from coordinating the first nationally televised game to having former standout Marco Gonzales a finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. Hoskin also assisted with the press operations side of the nationally recognized basketball programs, including the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament held on campus. He would graduate from Gonzaga in May 2012.

Before moving to Spokane, Wash., Hoskin interned for one year at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. He covered nearly all of the NCAA Division III sports and also served as the primary contact for the Division I women's ice hockey team.

Hoskin's sports information career began in 2007, while he was a student at his alma mater, the University of Nevada. He worked as a student intern in the Wolf Pack athletic department assisting with football, basketball, baseball and volleyball while serving as the contact for tennis, rifle and skiing. He also worked the Western Athletic Conference Tournament held in Reno in 2009.

Prior to joining the Wolf Pack athletic department, Hoskin worked two years for the student newspaper The Nevada Sagebrush. With the Sagebrush, he covered news and sports while assisting with the paginating department. He is also a winning member of the Student News Design Best in Show award.

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Hoskin was raised in the sports industry. His career began in 1998 with Major League Soccer's San Jose Clash (now known as the Earthquakes). With the MLS franchise, Hoskin assisted with the locker room duties for two years before moving to stadium operations until the team relocated to Houston in 2005.

He also covered other events at San Jose State University's Spartan Stadium such as the MLS All-Star Game in 2001, the 2003 MLS Cup Playoffs, the Silicon Valley Football Classic along with international soccer friendlies including the U.S. Men's and Women's National Teams.

When the Earthquakes returned as an 'expansion' team in 2008, Hoskin spent that summer as an intern for the communications office, handling game notes, press releases and press box operations.

Hoskin earned his Master of Arts in Sport & Athletic Administration from Gonzaga in 2012, following a General Studies degree from the University of Nevada in 2009, with a Concentration in Journalism & Speech Communication.
