Young's Two Leads Four Home Run Barrage in 14-5 Win at CSUSB

SAN BERNARDINO -- With just four games left in the regular season and fighting for their CCAA playoff lives, Cal State Dominguez Hills senior Kamran Young (pictured) belted a pair of home runs with fellow senior Joshua Flores following suit with a grand slam of his own to lead the Toros to a 14-5 win over Cal State San Bernardino to kick off this week's crucial four-game set.

Brady Conlan also went deep as the Toros banged 17 hits on the night, with junior TyRay Gatewood going the distance in the win as the Toros improve to 25-22, 19-18, still sitting three games back of Cal State L.A. for fourth place in the CCAA standings, which bested UC San Diego in a 3-2 pitching duel today at Reeder Field.

With just three games left in the regular season, however, CSUDH sits in the driver's seat as the CCAA imposed a penalty on Cal State L.A. after the Golden Eagles used ineligible players in three games this year, which will result in deducting .092 from CSULA's winning percentage after the regular season ends for the Golden Eagles on Saturday.

The top four teams qualify for the CCAA Tournament next weekend, taking place in Stockton.

After the host Yotes took an early 2-0 lead on a home run, Young began his own onslaught with a 3-run blast to right center, giving the Toros the lead for good.

Tied at 3-3 entering the fifth, Young connected again with a blast to the opposite field to score Brandon Polizzi, setting up Flores who came up with the bases full and sent an 0-1 pitch over the wall to put the Toros up 9-3.

A Yote solo shot brought the hosts back to within five, but Conlan took his turn to go yard with a two run blast for an 11-4 lead, with a Flores RBI single, a wild pitch and Adrian Guzman sacrifice fly adding the final three runs of the five-run sixth inning.

That was plenty for Gatewood, who benefited from the offensive support en route to making 116 pitches to improve to 3-2 on the year.  The junior power pitcher fanned eight Yotes while allowing just one walk in the win as the Toros established their season high with 17 hits.

The two teams will face off in game two tomorrow night, with first pitch set for 6 pm on Fiscalini Field.
