Toros Complete Series Sweep with 4-2 Win vs Seawolves

CARSON -- Since the two teams began playing four-game series in 1995, Cal State Dominguez baseball earned its first-ever series sweep against Sonoma State with a 4-2 win in the series finale, moving to within one game behind Cal State L.A. for fourth-place in the CCAA.

Senior Jeffrey Gogue (pictured) earned the win with 5.1 innings pitched and four strikeouts. Fernando Gallegos went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored while both Brandon Polizzi and Kamran Young had two hits of their own.

With the win, the Toros improve to 23-19 overall and 17-15 CCAA, while the Seawolves fall to 20-21 overall and 14-18 CCAA.

Additionally, CSUDH now controls its own fate in terms of qualifying for the league tournament as they travel to Cal State Monterey Bay for a crucial four-game set this weekend, with the third-place Otters sitting three games ahead of the Toros in the standings.

After the Seawolves took an early lead in the first, it was Brady Conlan again who got the Toros even as his sacrifice fly in the first knotted the score at 1-1.

Conlan then singled home the go-ahead run before scoring himself on a wild pitch later in the frame, with Fernando Gallegos adding an insurance run int he seventh to plate Johnny Palmer a run that would prove beneficial after Sonoma State got one back in eighth.

But that would be it as Gogue and Gallegos (2.2 IP) set up the save for Kevin Lenik, whose perfect ninth earned him his second save of the series.

Overall, Conlan hit .357 in the series, driving home 8 batters while scoring thrice himself, with two doubles and a home run.

The Toros and Otters kick off their four-game set on Friday at 3 pm in Seaside.
