Otters Roll to 13-3 Win to Open Key CCAA Series

SEASIDE -- Separated by just 3.0 games entering today's contest to open a four-game set, host Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills seemed worlds apart as the Otteres pounded 13 hits while scoring early and often, and the result was a dominating 13-3 win over the Toros in a battle of two teams looking to secure a berth in the CCAA Championship Tournament.

Brady Conlan went 2-for-3 with an RBI in a loss that saw the the Toros manage just three less hits than their foes, but score 10 less runs.

The Otters jumped all over Toro starter Winston Lavendier, tagging the senior lefty for 8 runs (4 unearned) and 8 hits in just 5.0 innings of work.

A Kevin Lenik RBI triple in the second got the Toros on the board and cut CSUDH's deficit to just 3-1, but CSUMB scored nine unanswered runs before the Toros put single scores on the board in the final two innings on RBI base hits by Conlan and Fernando Gallegos.

Six other Toros notched one hit each, but paled in comparison to CSUMB's efficiency.

Weather permitting, the two teams continue their four-game set with a 12 noon doubleheader.
