Mootry Goes Yard Twice as Toros Roll to 9-5 and 5-0 Sweep at SFSU

SAN FRANCISCO -- Senior first baseman Alexandra Mootry went 3-for-4 with a home run and double before capping her night with a 2-3, 2RBI, home run performance to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 9-5 and 5-0 sweep at San Francisco State in today's twinbill.

The Toros now have won seven-straight games in improving to 10-9, 8-4 CCAA.

Mootry got the Toros off on the right foot early in the opener with a solo shot to left on the first pitch she saw in the 2nd inning, before a Rachel Gulbrandsen RBI double to left scored Kaci McGinnis for a 2-0 lead.

A Gator error in the third for a score preceded a Mootry RBI single in the 4th to give starter Jamie Duran a 4-0 cushion, until SFSU tied the game with four in its 3rd inning at-bat.

CSUDH, however, answered with three in the fifth, one on a Madison Murphy RBI single and two on a huge SFSU miscue, adding two in the 6th on another error and a wild pitch.

Mootry pounded three hits to lead the charge, driving in two in the win with Duran benefitting from three SFSU errors and fanning four batters.

The nightcap was all CSUDH as the Toros scored in the 1st on a Mootry sacrifice fly, with Gulbrandsen doubling home another run in the 2nd.

The Toros put the game away in the 5th after Analisa Nicholson brought home two on a double to left center, before Mootry unloaded for her second home run of the day, a solo shot after Nicholson was caught trying to extend her double to a triple.

Starter Alyssa Valinches tossed a complete-game gem, scattering six hits in the win, while Stephanie Hua with three hits and Mootry with two leading the offensive charge.

The Toros will face a stiffer challenge next weekend, traveling to No. 3 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay for a four-game set in Seaside.
