Hua Goes Deep in 6-1 Game One Loss at No. 3 CS Monterey Bay as Otter Sweep Twinbill

SEASIDE -- Senior Stephanie Hua belted her third home run of the year, but host and No. 3 Cal State Monterey Bay scored five runs in the first three innings en route to a 6-1 game one win over the visiting Toros today at the Otter Sports Complex.

CSUMB wasted little time in the nightcap, taking an 8-0 win in 5 innings as CSUDH falls to 10-11, 8-6 CCAA.

The Otters jumped on the Toros early in the opener, scoring twice in the 2nd.  Hua's blast cut the Otter lead in half, only to see the hosts answer with three in the 3rd to push their lead to 5-1.

Another Otter run an inning later accounted for the fial scoring of the day in the 6-1 win as Alexandra Mootry led the Toro offense with a pair of hits.

The nightcap was all CSUMB as the third-ranked team in the nation scored thrice in the 1st inning and four in the 3rd to put the game out of reach, adding a final run in the 4th to win via the mercy-run rule.

The Toros managed just two hits off Otter starter Lindsey Clarkson as Toro starter Alyssa Valinches lasted just 2.0 innings.

The two teams complete their four-game set tomorrow morning, with first pitch of game one set for 11:00 am.
