Young Hammers Home Point (Twice) in 8-6 Win Over CSULA

CARSON -- Senior lefty Kamran Young went deep twice against visiting Cal State L.A. en route to a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon, and the result was an 8-6 win that gave the Toros their first series win against their cross-town rivals since the 2010 season.

The Toros improve to 12-8 overall, and 7-5 CCAA with their third-straight win, moving into a tie for 4th place with CSULA in the CCAA standings.

Here's Young's second home run of the day.

Young started the scoring with a solo homer in the 1st, with a Fernando Gallegos 2RBI double and Danny Matienzo RBI single giving Toro starter Jeffrey Gogue a 4-0 lead after one.

CSULA got three back in the 3rd, and after a Toro run in the 4th made the score 5-3 for the hosts, the visitors tied the game in the 6th on a sacrifice fly and RBI single.

That's when Young took matters onto his own bat again, hammering a 1-0 offering deep over the right field fence to bring home Brandon Polizzi to give CSUDH the lead for good.

A Matienzo RBI single in the 7th provided a key insurance run, making a 9th inning run by CSULA too little, too late.

Daryl Donerson and Matienzo each knocked two hits, with Matienzo and Gallegos driving home two runs in the offensive show.

Albert Flores picked up the win in relief, with TyRay Gatewood picking up his third save of the year, and his second of the series.

CSUDH looks to keep its momentum going on the road next weekend, traveling to Cal State East Bay for a four-game CCAA set.
