East Bay Downs Toros to Open Four-Game Set

HAYWARD -- Cal State Dominguez Hills opened today's contest at Cal State East Bay with two runs in the first, but the host Pioneers answered with four to take the lead for good as the hosts took a 5-2 win over the Toros to begin the four-game set.

Kamran Young went 2-for-3 on the day, with Juan Avena tallying both RBI in the loss that drops CSUDH to 12-9, 7-6 CCAA.

CSUDH staked starter Fernando Gallegos to a pair of runs in its first at-bat, courtesy of Avena's 2RBI knock up the middle.

The hosts, however, answered with four runs in their 1st-inning at-bat to take the lead for good, the big blow coming on a 2RBI single with the bases loaded.

CSUEB added a run in the 2nd, and that proved enough for starter Michael Pope, who went 8.0 for the win.

Brady Conlan and Adrian Guzman added a knock each in the loss, while relievers Albert Flores and Bryce Shea combined for 2.2 innings of work, allowing one hit between them.

The two teams hook up again tomorrow morning with a doubleheader, starting at 12 noon.
