Cal State L.A. Offense Erupts Late to Spoil Pitching Duel in 6-2 Decision

CARSON -- With a 2-1 score favoring visiting Cal State L.A. entering the top of the 9th, the Golden Eagles touched three Toro pitchers for four runs en route to a 6-2 win to open the four-game set between the cross-town rivals.

Fernando Gallegos tossed a gutty 8.0 innings of work in taking the loss.

The visitors started the scoring early with a run in the top of the 1st, before Brady Conlan tied the game on an opposite field RBI double.

CSULA, however, answered with its own RBI double in the 6th before breaking the game open with four in the 9th, the big blow coming on a bases-clearing triple.

The Toros got one back on a passed ball by CSULA reliever Reed Reznicek, but it was too little, too late as Reznicek closed the door on the win, picking up his first save of the year.

Brandon Quintero earned the win after going 7.1 innings, fanning eight with just one walk.

Jack Colick led the Toros with two hits in the loss.

The two teams go at it again for a double-header at Reeder Field, with first pitch of game one set for 11 am.
