No. 18 Cal Poly Pomona Rolls to 13-6 Win in CCAA Action

CARSON -- Eighteenth ranked Cal Poly Pomona exploded for 13 runs in the first three innings en route to a 13-6 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in game two of the four-game set.

Kamran Young drove in four runs while Fernando Gallegos (pictured) pitched 5.2 innings of shutout ball in relief as the Toros drop to 15-15, 10-12 CCAA.

The hot-hitting Broncos wasted little time in scoring, plating three in the first for a 3-0 lead.

Young quickly erased CSUDH's deficit with his ninth home run of the year, only to have the visitors answer with four in the second, courtesy of two Toro errors and just one hit.

A Gallegos RBI single and Young RBI fielder's choice put two more on the board for the Toros, but a six-run third inning broke the game open, with CPP earning the runs on just three hits.

The Toros answered again with a run in the third on an Adrian Guzman RBI baseknock, before both relief corps shut the door on both offenses the rest of the way in the eventual 13-6 tally.

CSUDH made four miscues in the contest as Brandon Polizzi, Gallegos, Daniel Matienzo and Guzman knocking a pair of hits each in the loss.

Starter Albert Flores lasted just 2.0 innings, with outfielder Kevin Lenik making his debut on the mound, fanning two in the scoreless ninth.

The two teams conclude their four-game set tomorrow morning in Pomona, with first pitch of game one's twinbill set for 11 am.
