Ruiz Slams Door on Tritons in Grand Style After Game One Walk-Off as Toros Sweep UCSD

CARSON -- It's safe to assume junior Jasmine Ruiz likes Denny's Restaurant.  So when she stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the 7th with Cal State Dominguez Hills trailing 2-0 and the bases loaded, it was only fitting that Ruiz belted an Alexis Edwards offering deep over the center field fence to give the Toros a dramatic 4-2 win over visiting UC San Diego in game one of today's twinbill.

Ruiz added a triple-double of sorts in the nightcap (2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI) as CSUDH took the nightcap by a 7-2 count to sweep the Sunday afternoon twinbill.

Watch Ruiz's blast here.

It was all UC San Diego early as the Tritons took a 2-0 lead, with both runs courtesy of Emma Schneider.

The Toros had managed just three hits through 6.0 innings of work off Triton Alexis Edwards, but that all changed in the seventh as Alexandra Mootry, Kaci McGinnis and Jazmyne Cortinas all notched hits to load the bases.

That set the stage for Ruiz's heroics, which snapped the Toros' four-game skid.

CSUDH used that momentum in game two, taking a 4-1 lead after 2.0 innings with the big blows coming on a McGinnis solo shot and a Ruiz RBI double to plate Cortinas.

After Schneider homered to bring UCSD to within two runs, the Toros put the game away with three in the sixth, with Ruiz starting the rally with an RBI single, and scoring the second run in the frame on a Carly Mitchell 2RBI baseknock.

Jamie Duran and Alyssa Valinches picked up the wins in the circle on a warm Sunday afternoon.

The two teams continue their four-game set tomorrow, with game one starting at 12 noon on Toro Diamond.
