Toros Even Series With Gators After 8-3 Win

CARSON -- Senior Brady Conlan enjoyed a 3-for-4 outing with 3RBI and 2 runs scored, while junior TyRay Gatewood closed the door on the Gators as Cal State Dominguez Hills took an 8-3 win over visiting San Francisco State to even the regular season series at two games each.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 15-13, 10-10 CCAA, and into a tie for 6th place in the CCAA.

After routing the Gators in last night's nightcap, the Toros wasted little time in jumping all over SFSU starter Preston Tarter, who lasted just two-thirds of an inning after getting tagged for five runs, four of which were earned.

Conland started the deluge with an RBI single to left, before RBI singles by Danny Matienzo and Kevin Lugo made the score 3-0 for the home team.

A Daryl Donerson fielder's choice plated the fourth run, with a Gator error accounting for run five in the inning.

Conlan added two more in the next inning, taking the first pitch he saw from reliever Matthew Hernandez deep over the fence for a 2-run jack to make the score 7-0.

SFSU finally got on the board with single runs in the third and fourth, but Kamran Young added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth in the eventual 8-3 win.

Toro starter Albert Flores picked up his third win of the year after tossing 6.0 innings and allowing two earned runs, with Bryce Shea and TyRay Gatewood holding the Gators scoreless the rest of the game.

Young belted two hits and scored twice, with Brandon Polizzi also scoring twice in the win.

CSUDH will need to keep its momentum going this week as Cal Poly Pomona visits Toro Field for single games on Thursday and Friday afternoon.
