Late Surge Pushes No. 3 Otters to 4-1 Game One Win, With Walk-Off Securing Sweep

SEASIDE -- Senior Carly Mitchell stroked three hits to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills to an early 1-0 lead, but No. 3 and host Cal State Monterey Bay scored thrice in the 5th and one more in the 6th en route to a 4-1 win over the Toros in game one of today's twinbill.

The hosts then completed the day's and series sweep with a dramatic walk-off win in the bottom of the 7th in the nightcap to drop the Toros to 10-13, 8-8 CCAA.

Analisa Nicholson got the Toros started in the opener after her RBI single drove in Mitchell for a 1-0 lead, an edge starter Jamie Duran held onto until the 5th.

In that frame, the Otters scored three runs to take the lead, with All-American Cori Reinhardt providing the big blow.

CSUDH roped eight hits in the loss, but left nine on base, including the bases full in the 1st and 5th frames.

The nightcap saw CSUMB take a 3-1 lead heading into the 4th, when the Toros exploded for five runs.  In the frame, an Otter wild pitch allowed the flood gates to open, with a Rachel Gulbrandsen bases loaded walk, Madison Murphy RBI double, another wild pitch and another bases loaded free pass accounting for the final four runs.

Toro starter Alicia Paiz held onto that lead until the 6th, when the Otters rallied with two to get to within 6-5.

In their final at-bat, CSUMB completed the comeback with Reinhardt bringing home the tying run, and scoring the game-winner herself two batters later.

Murphy roped a pair of hits to lead the Toros, with Nicholson bringing home two in the loss.

CSUDH returns home next weekend to host perennial power UC San Diego on Sunday and Monday, with both twinbills set for 12 noon starts.
